When staffing levels are reduced, Probation officers are forced to carry larger caseloads and absorb additional responsibilities. That means less time for mentorship, family engagement, school coordination, rehabilitation planning, and less opportunity to truly connect with youth who are desperately in need of guidance and structure. Reducing staffing does not reduce the workload. It reduces the quality of intervention. And when intervention suffers, public safety and our communities are the ones who are negatively impacted. The Department’s own mission speaks about building trust, empowering individuals, and creating safer communities through transformation and collaboration. Those goals cannot be achieved if Probation Services continue to lose critical staff. Investing in Probation is investing in prevention, rehabilitation, and safer communities.
