The Santa Clara Valley Agricultural Plan, adopted by the Board of Supervisors in 2018, is critical for ensuring the continued viability of agriculture in Santa Clara County. The Ag Plan rightly concerns itself "with the goal of increasing agri-tourism, food security and building a healthy local food system." (2018 Ag Plan, p. 7.) In today's geopolitical environment, nothing can be more important than ensuring local food security. Even USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins has made it clear that small, family farms are a central focus of her department’s policy agenda, framing them as the “heart of our communities and our nation.” In recognizing this critical goal, the 2018 Ag Plan created the Farmbudsman position.
