Docusign Envelope ID: 417ABA7D-3C53-48A3-8308-B5BEF2572931 Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration held on May 5 th and commemorates the historic Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, when Mexican forces achieved a significant victory against the French army in the struggle for Mexican independence and self-determination; WHEREAS, Cinco de Mayo in Santa Clara County dates back to the rise of the Chicano Movement during the 1940s, becoming a day of celebration of Mexican culture and heritage and advocacy for institutional cultural representation; WHEREAS, Cinco de Mayo-highlighted by folk dance showcases, or baile folkl6rico, the flying of Mexican flags, and supporting local businesses-is the marquee celebration for Mexican Americans in Santa Clara County; and WHEREAS, the Cinco de Mayo Planning Committee is recognized for going above and beyond for facilitating an important cultural celebration for the Mexican American community by organizing the second annual Cinco de Mayo parade and event in San Jose. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Santa Clara does hereby proclaim May 5, 2026, as Cinco de Mayo in Santa Clara County and encourages all...
