Coats’ Disease occurs more often in boys than girls and has been diagnosed in infants as young as four months; WHEREAS, Jack McGovern, a current Santa Clara County resident, discovered at age 10 that he could not see the big ‘E’ in eye charts and was subsequently diagnosed with Coats’ Disease, requiring four eye surgeries to stabilize his vision; WHEREAS, Jack McGovern’s parents, Ed and Tina McGovern, established the Jack McGovern Coats’ Disease Foundation in 2006 to raise awareness about the disorder and raise funds that support research for a cure for both Coats’ Disease and other pediatric retinal disorders; and WHEREAS, the Jack McGovern Coats’ Disease Foundation annually hosts a golf tournament and dinner fundraiser to support the foundation’s research and activities and to bring awareness to the broader community about Coats’ Disease and childhood retinal disorders, and the 20th Annual Golf Tournament and Dinner will take place on August 27, 2026.
