W HEREAS, Ukraine-the second-largest nation in Europe and home to more than 33 million people-has profound historical and cultural significance. Its capital, Kyiv, is one of the oldest cities in Eastern Europe and reflects a rich heritage that traces back to the earliest hominins on the continent; WHEREAS, since declaring independence in 1991, Ukraine has developed positive and cooperative international relationships, including with the United States of America, which are strong and peaceful partnerships grounded in mutual respect and democratic values; WHEREAS, since 1987, the County of Santa Clara Sister County Program has expanded global connections to foster cross-cultural diplomatic relationships by hosting international delegations; WHEREAS, on March 22, 2022, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors condemned the Russian Federation's unprovoked invasion, called for an immediate end to the war, and affirmed the County's steadfast support for local Ukrainian families and their loved ones overseas; and WHEREAS, the County of Santa Clara is honored to host its fourth Ukrainian Open World Delegation in April 2026, with Ramil Agabekov, Oleksii Oleshko, Ihor Okolychnyi,...
